ur old post's mobo was p8h67 m, and now its p8h67 m- le
    which is better?
p8h67 m has only usb 2.0 but you showed it as 3.0??
(sorry ,if i am wrong, i have a little knowledge in technology.)

    p8h67 m spec -- http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8H67M/#specifications

    thank you

    1. P8H67 M is costlier and has the below extra features than M-LE
      1) 4 RAM slots
      2) Support for AMD GPU Crossfire (use of 2 GPU)

but only M-LE has USB 3.0

There was a confusion in my previous post, in the box it will be mentioned as P8H67 M LEV3, which I posted as P8H67 M. That is corrected here.

      I recommend to go for P8H67 M-LE

    1. @Shikhar,

      1) Go for the config in this page, but replace with the below

      Processor - Intel Core i7 - 2600 - Rs.16,950 (Dont go for the K edition, unless u overclock)

      Graphics Card - Msi GTX 570 - Rs.19,000

      2) Dont go for Z68, it is for overclockers and costly.
Better go for P67 or H67

    2. Mr.Karthik,
Thanks for the quick reply,I want to OC my processor, that's why chose i7 2600k and I want a P67/Z68 mobo for Sli in future. But u said in one of your posts that onboard graphics can run the pc when GPU has a problem. Also I have read that they consume less power than a GPU while watching HD movies etc. That's why I was going for Z68 rather than P67.So,please suggest a good Z68/P67 mobo with USB 3.0.
I wanted to overclock CPU for competing with the upcoming Ivy Bridge. I can't upgrade my P.C. atleast till 2013 end,and I want to run upcoming games like Crysis 3 atleast at medium settings.
Also, please suggest a gamepad with PS3 layout and Xinput, and a pair of gaming Headphones.

      Thanking You,
      Yours Faithfully

    3. @Shikhar,

      1) Go for the Z68 board
      ASUS P8Z68-V PRO - Rs.15,400
It has all the features u needed
      a. Overclock
      b. Auto switchable graphics (between GPU and CPU)
      c. SLI and USB 3.0

      2) Personally I recommend u to go for Microsoft Wireless XBOX 360 controller. It supports all games.

      3) Headset :
      Razer Carcharias - Rs.3700
      Razer Electra - Rs.3000

    4. Thanks for the reply man,i really appreciate the way you are helping all of us..what do you suggest using win7 home premium or ultimate for games...and which one? Pirated or genuine?.. I wanted the game pad with ps3 layout, so please see whether logitech f510 and f710 are reliable our not....thanks again for helping out.

      Delete
    5. 1) Win 7 Home Premium or Ultimate doesnt matter, both r same for games.

      2) Genuine is better, u have some genuine advantages from Microsoft and important security updates.

      3) Both Logitech Gamepads are good but costly.
Microsoft XBOX 360 controller is the way PC games are meant to be played :-)

    6. thnx a ton for help, but i can get f510 is for 1425 at flipkart....and i don't like xbox 360 layout, i don't why...so now that you are saying that f510 and f710 are good ,so i am gonna go with them...do you know any place in delhi where i can get the parts u suggested at the same price as you gave.

  5. Hello karthik
    mu new config is - i5 2500 + asus p8h67 M + Asus gtx 560 Ti OC at 830Mhz +650w psu+ CM gladiator 600 case +8gb ram.
i downloaded a software called "speccy" which shows my motherboard temperature is 90 degree celsious, my processor is 44 degree celcious , gpu is 45 degree , hard drive is 42 degree celsious.
what is the problem with the motherboard? will it get damaged soon?
i searched in net and found this
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/308814-28-high-cputin-core-temperature-asus-p8h67
is it bcos of the sensor problem like they saying? should i be worried? the pc looks working fine and the fans are running normal.
    thank you

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1) Temp of 90c for motherboard is little high.
      2) Check the sensor using the software
      AIDA64 Extreme (Free Trail available)
North and South Bridge temp are normally high, in my case it is 75c.

      3) Even If that shows high temp, try to open ur cabinet and check any thing (wire or dust) blocks the air flow. Clean and try again

      Delete
    2. Thank u ,
the AIDA64 shows only 35 degree celsius temperature for my mobo.
the "speccy" software might be crap.
      thank u once again.

      thanks for ur quick response.

i can spent around 15-20k for upgrade. (i can change processor as well as motherboard if need be). please advise.

      thanks
      harish

    2. ur CPU and Motherboard are little outdated.
But upgrading all at once for 20k is not a good idea.

Also ur motherboard does not support GPU (it does not have PCI-EX 16 port)

      1) First upgrade with a good CPU, Mobo and a normal GPU, later go for a good GPU

      AMD Phenom II X4 960 Black Edition - Rs.6200
      Asus 760G M5A78L-M LX - Rs.2850
      Corsair 4 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - Rs.1100
      HIS AMD HD 6750 1GB - Rs.6200
Coolermaster GX 550W - Rs.4500 (Better PSU for future upgrade)

NOTE: Make sure ur cabinet hold all these, because 610i is a small board.

    3. many thanks for ur suggestion. i will write about it, after i made the upgrade.

    1. I strongly recommend NOT to use laptop for gaming.

Gaming Laptops are just fancy stuff.

For the same price, u can build a sexy Desktop Gaming Beast

    2. completely agree bro, but there's always the question of mobility isn't it ? .
it isn't possible, well possible but not advisable to carry the desktop around while travelling, hence the problem :(
so just for argument sake is there any laptop that cold possible be used for light-medium to medium kind of gaming around 55-60 k

btw, brilliant config for the desktop at that price, wish i could buy that :)

  9. Hi Karthik, really appreciate you for your work man. I've been looking for a site/blog like this for long. Well I'm planning to build a rig around 55k. Here is my current plan of configuration.

    Intel Core i5 2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
    Intel DH67VR LGA 1155
    XFX Radeon HD6750 1GB DDR5
    Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD
    4 x Corsair DDR3 4 GB (1333 MHz)
    Cooler Master Elite 430
    Corsair 600CXV2UK 600 Watts
    Asus DRW-24B3ST
    Microsoft KB+Mouse
Dell 18.5 Inch WideScreen HD LED
    Creative Inspire T3130 2.1

1.I need advice on my choice of motherboard, graphic card and RAM (is it too slow?). Are these adequate and future proof?

2.BTW I've got no plans to overclock.

3.I planned to take a smaller monitor so that I can run the games on full resolution without any upgrade in future. Is that a good idea or what?

4.Will I need a water cooling system for this config?

Kindly reply mate. I really wanna put up this rig ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1) GPU is ok, but not good for Rs.55k Rig
Go for GTX 560Ti or AMD HD 6850

      2) Corsair 600 CX is a decent PSU, but if u can afford go for 80+ PSU CoolerMaster GX 550 (It is better than 600w Corsair CX)

      3) It is good to go for smaller monitors, but 18.5 screen is not full HD. 21.5 screens are full HD (1080p). So go for 21.5' monitors, ur rig can easily handle that resolution.

      Delete
    2. U dont need any special Water Coolers. Dont waste money on them, unless u overclock.

      Delete
    3. Sapphire AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6850
Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 600W
Dell 22 Inch WideScreen HD LED

Well with the above changes the budget now is around 60k I guess. Couple of queries dude.

1.A full HD monitor will reduce the chance of future proofing or what? I can't afford an upgrade in future.

2.Is the RAM speed of 1333 MHz good enough?

      3.AMD 3.5 GHz AM3 Phenom II 970 with ASUS M5A88-M AM3+
and the above mentioned components will make an equally powerful rig or what?

      Delete
    4. 1) I dont understand, what u mean by future proof in Monitor with Full HD?

      2) Yes 1333 MHZ RAMs are good, but if u can increase ur budget go for 1600 MHz RAM

      3) No, i5 2500 is better than AMD 970

yesterday through google search I found some player like MPC. In the option change renderer to my GPU. It works fine. while I play in WMP or nay other player same problem happens. I check my CPU usages it shows 90% while playing HD movies in these players.

Is it processor problem. I also want to upgrade my PC for gaming. which is the good config. I don't want o change my nvidia GTS 200 series graphics card & Zebronics platinum series 600watt SMPS.

    1. To play HD videos you need a decent CPU and GPU. Other wise it will lag like you said.

What is ur exact CPU and GPU model?

Also Default Windows Media player is not good to play HD videos.

Install K-Lite Mega Codec and play the file using 'Media Player Classic' (MPC as u said) that comes with it.

      Also try VLC Player

    1. 1) 1Gb or 2Gb doesnt make big difference.
Even for high-end systems 1Gb is enough.
2Gb helps only if u play games at very high resolution(so a big monitor)

      2) Processing power of the GPU
      For Nvidia : Cuda Cores
      For AMD : Stream Processors

      3) Memory size doesnt matter much, now-a-days all GPU have min of 1Gb

      4) Check the no. of processing unit, as mentioned in point 2

  29. Hi Karthik,

I want to start off with saying this " You are doing a great job. Thank you' . Your blog is helpful to a amateur like me. I have a requirement and your suggestion is greatly appreciated. My requirements are,

    1. A configuration which will play the latest heavy duty games.(Not sure which they are, but intend to find out on the net and purchase when I have brought a system.)

    2. A system which will also act as my Media Player for the family. To play Blu ray movies, music.(Have seen on tv someone who built this and uses it alike, gaming, medial player, surf the net)

    3. Would like to keep the budget at 70k. But would not mind to spend more on installment basis meaning adding things at later dates depending on how much I can expend on the machine for that month. So basically should be upgradable to the best config overtime(say in 1 yrs time) but should do the basic functions as playing games.

I am aware that no system can be future proof, but I am just hoping once my rig starts to get older altleast it can be used as a medial player.

So the criteria here is .. Gaming( should handle stuff that comes out say the next 2 years), Media 30 inch screen and a good set of speakers I suppose)

Thanks for reading through my query.

    Regards
    Pradeep.(Bangalore)

I want suggestions for a high-end gaming configuration.
    Budget Rs65,000.

    Here's what I've decided :

    Processor - i5 2500k = 11k
    Mobo - Gigabyte Z68 AP D-3 = 8.5k
    GPU - AMD 6950 2gb = 16k
    Monitor - Benq 22" LED = 7k
    HDD - Seagate 1TB = 5k
    Optical Drive = 1k
    Power Supply - Corsair SMPS 650 watt = 5k
Cabinet- Cooler Master Elite = 3k
    Speakers = 1k
    Mouse and Keyboard = 0.7k
    RAM- 4x2 DDR3 1333Mhz Corsair RAM = 2k
    Coolant- Cooler Master Hyper 212 + = 2k
    UPS= 1.5k

I guess overall it would be somewhere around 65k.
That's what I'm planning to get and please suggest any change that you can make to this config for better results and please tell me if I'm wrong about any of the above mentioned price.

  44. Hi Karthik,

This is Venkat here, I am looking at the Intel Site about the 2nd gen Laptop processors i3-2350M vs i5-2450M.

    http://ark.intel.com/compare/53452,53438

I know in desktop, for i3 it has 2 cores and for i5 - 4 cores, whereas for Laptop processors both i3 and i5 has 2 cores only. I only see the difference of clock speed and Turbo Boost between both these processors. My questions are

    1. Any thoughts on the main differences between these two processors?
    2. practically do you think there will be huge difference between these two laptop processors. for example:
My Laptop Config is Lenovo Z570 (i5-2410/Win 7 Home Premium/4gb RAM/750gb hdd/nvidia520 1gb). What if i had bought the same config with i3 instead of i5?

    Thanks
    Venkat.

    Replies
    1. Practically i5-2450M is faster than i3-2350M.

      1) clock speed and turbo boost are important.

      2) Higher the clock speed means more operations per sec (Also the graphics frequency is higher in i5m)

      3) Turbo boost means - for applications that does not use both cores, the clock speed is increased (many normal applications and games). This does not happen in i3

      2) 1600 RAM works perfectly in this board at 1333 speed.

      3) does it give better perfomance? - Not much, but the RAM timing is better than some cheaper 1333 RAMs.

      It supports Only Intel processor.

      For ur budget (Rs.7k)

and if i buy this ,is it necessary to use cooler in 40 degree room temperature in Jaipur in non ac room...
if gpu is necessary then suggest some good gpu coolers...

    2. @Anonymous,
      1) do u need 8GB RAM? 4GB is enough for most games and Apps
      2) Extra Cooling is not necessary - Decent Cabinet is enough
      3) Instead of CoolerMaster Extreme 550w go for CoolerMaster GX 550

      Delete
    3. @abh,

      1) Overclocking means increasing the frequency of GPU to get better performance.

      2) If u overclock u need a GPU cooler

      3) Overclocking gives 10-20% increase in performance

      4) DONT overclock, unless u are sure what u r doing? It may void ur warranty and damage ur hardware
